Sascha Van Helvoort| MRCVS
Wednesday - 29 Sep
Sascha started out her veterinary career working in the swine fever outbreak in the Netherlands 1998, in which she was already working as a veterinary student. She then moved to Somerset, where she worked in mixed practice, concentrating on cattle work. Sascha slowly moved her interest to equine work, and worked both in Ireland and France before coming back to the UK. After about 15 years in practice, she decided that she was due for a change and went into pharmaceutical industry as a Veterinary Advisor, but found there to be little flexibility balancing family life and the needs of the business.
Sascha joined APHA in 2015 as a Senior Veterinary Inspector based in Lincoln and has thoroughly enjoyed her time there. From TB to border controls, welfare, ABP and feed incidents to notifiable diseases, two days were never alike. From the time she joined APHA, she was involved in all aspects of the various avian outbreaks there have been over the years. Most recently, Sascha was appointed Veterinary Head of Field Delivery for Outbreaks; a role that provides strategic veterinary and technical leadership of APHA delivery operations during the current AI outbreak, which is the biggest experienced so far.
