Private vets are trusted advisers, and we can bridge the gap between government control of TB and practical farm-based information. If a farmer’s private vet can share why TB is notifiable, and why we have the different rules we have across Great Britain, farmers will listen and be more engaged. TB has such a significant impact on farm businesses, the farm’s own vet can help clients deal with the stress and anxiety that TB testing and breakdowns bring. Using tools like the TB Advisory Service (TBAS) and CHECS, TB vets and farmers can work together to understand the TB biosecurity risks on farm and importantly look at what they can do to reduce – if not eliminate – those risks.
Holistic approach to bovine TB control – there is more to bTB than just testing
