Silver qualified as a veterinarian from the Aristotelion University, Greece. After working in a mixed practice, she was awarded the European Parliament traineeship and worked in Brussels and Luxembourg in the legislative and decision making process in the EU.
Since moving to the UK in 1996 to do an MSc in Food Safety, she has worked as government veterinarian; first in the Food Safety Agency, and then joining APHA in 2008 as a Veterinary Officer, where she got involved in multiple areas of animal health and welfare official controls. Silver specialises in poultry health, particularly in avian influenza control. Her current role is as a Veterinary Advisor in the TB Leadership Team for Delivery, which – in partnership with TB Policy Veterinary Advisors – implements and evaluates APHA’s delivery of bovine TB eradication programmes in GB.
