Professor Falko Steinbach, DVM, PhD, MRCVS (APHA) is Head of Mammalian Virology at APHA and Professor of Veterinary Immunology at the University of Surrey. His research interests are host-pathogen interaction and new and (re-)emerging diseases, which include zoonotic diseases like Hepatitis E and Coronavirus-induced diseases such as PED. Further to studying viruses of interest, his team has devoted a part of its approach to understanding how the immune system interacts with viruses such as the Nidovirales PEDV, PRRSV or EAV. Since 2013, he has been a named OIE expert for Equine Viral Arteritis. He was the founding Chair of the European Veterinary Immunology Group (EVIG), is a member of Journal Editorial Boards, such as TBED, IJVSM and Frontiers Immunol, and has published more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.
