Claire graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2010, having also completed an MSc in Veterinary Infection and Disease Control.

Working in large animal practice for three years, she then joined the wider food industry with red meat processor Dunbia. Initially responsible for overseeing animal welfare across the group and later regional technical management in Scotland, the roles were key to the relationship between the abattoirs, producer and retail customers. In 2017, she joined Bristol Vet School; delivering industry-facing welfare and food safety training and undergraduate public health lectures, whilst running the university abattoir and working with national stakeholders on relevant projects, e.g. religious slaughter. She has undertaken a number of postgraduate qualifications and hopes to start a part-time PhD alongside her European public health residency later this year.

Claire is also a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Butchers and a council member for both the Scottish Meat Wholesalers Association and the Veterinary Public Health Association. She represents the organisations at relevant social and professional meetings; ranging from croquet competitions to BREXIT negotiation forums!
